The Kloofendal Nature Reserve offers many family friendly activities like hiking, mine tours, bird watching, picnics and an interesting Planet Walk.
The Planet Walk is a scale model of the solar system, using different scales for the distances between the planets and the relative size of the planets. The planets are mounted on rocks around the outside of the Kloofendal amphitheatre. Each rock has a plaque with interesting information about the planet.
Size scale: 1 mm of the model planet represents 550 km of the planet in the solar system
Distance scale: 1 meter of the distance between the planets in the amphitheatre represents 10 million kilometers in space.
This multi-cache takes you on a space journey to visit the planets in the Planet Walk and to gather interesting information at the stages of the multi-cache. You have to obtain the numbers for A, B, C and D to calculate the final coordinates to find the cache container.
Your space journey starts at a steel tube sphere which doubles up as a kid's climbing frame. Please keep a close eye on your kids if they climb on this frame.
Looking at the plaque for the celestial body presented by the climbing frame, count the number of letters in the first chemical element mentioned in the 2nd paragraph. Use this as A in the formula to calculate the final coordinates.
