LANGBEENSTAALSPINNEKOP
Let it be said that traditional direct translations from Afrikaans into English are not always definitive enough and may warrant some explanation to our potato mouthed compatriots... whereas our boerseuns can have a good laugh at the outcomes (and expressions of the English faces). Take my neighbor the other day as example. I had to sit down with him and explain how an "ystervark" is NOT an "iron pig" but in fact a "porcupine". He just could not get his head around that one. And a "windmeultuig" is not a "windmill stirrup" but in fact a "helicopter". There are MANY such references, more to the joy of the Afrikaner friends and to the dismay of the British tongue enabled folk around
Just for the record... the "langbeenstaalspinnekop" roughly translates into "long legged steel spider"...
Let the older kids do the climbing, although this ballie made it. Great view from the top, by the way
Little 'uns maybe stay on the ground and watch your dads put their backs out
