Geocache Description:

This place was where ancient Tivon (Tab’un) was situated, the archeological findings in the area show that there was a continuous settlement here for hundreds of years.

At the end of the Ottoman rule, there was a small village called Tab'un with several dozen houses that stretched on the southern side of the hill and where about 200 residents lived, most of them land tenant. In 1920, KKL purchased the lands of the Jezreel Valley from the Sursuk family and the settlement was abandoned.

Tivon is mentioned several times in the Mishnah and Talmud literature (second to fourth centuries AD) The names of four Tana’im from Tivon were mentioned: Abba Yossi man of Tivon, Rabbi Hananiah Ben Gamaliel from Kfar Tivon, Rabbi Yehuda man of Tivonin and Rabbi Zadok a scholar in medicine.

It was said about the people of Tivon the "Tivonin" that they were not careful in pronouncing the guttural letters in the Hebrew language, like most of the residents of the Galilee, the Jezreel Valley and Haifa. Due to their close proximity to Gentiles, they were influenced by their way of pronunciation and did not distinguish between the letter “hei” (ה) and the letter “cheit” (ח) and between the letter “ayin” (ע) and the letter “alef” (א).

To reach the cache you need to climb on the tree. Be careful!
