THE GEOCACHE IS AT THE POSTED COORDINATES

I recently discovered this area had been opened up again so I decided to revive this great underground cache. While the actual GZ has slightly changed the concept of the hide is exactly the same.

  • At WP1 peer into the darkness, your destination awaits you.
  • Using your gps project a waypoint of 95deg Mag for a distance of 90m
  • Start your walk at the "Entry point".
  • Enter the underground system, descending till the first right turn
  • Take the corridor down some steps to the end.
  • Turn left and descend the long corridor you seen from WP1
  • Your goal (GZ) awaits you deep in the dark depths.
  • If you get to the old gun turret, you've gone too far.

Previous cache notes GC3KHGH

For as long as I can remember The Rats have had a love of the great outdoors. At any opportunity we love to get out and do some of our favourite pastimes. Whether it’s Camping, 4WDriving, Hiking, Rogaining, Abseiling, Caving, Canyoning or a combination of them all. We simply love an outdoor adventure.

Our Geocaching adventures have always had a heightened level of adrenalin attached to them and this is a side of geocaching that The Rats really love. So it was only natural that we wanted fellow geocachers to share in some of these Adrenalin Adventures.

The Rats have hidden a series of geocaches around the Illawarra that should have the adrenalin pumping through your veins. We acknowledge that this series of geocaches isn’t for everyone and each of them has a heightened level of risk associated with them. The Rats take no responsibility for your actions as you undertake these geocaches and you do so at your own risk.

Underground:
The Illawarra is flanked with many reminders of our war gone past. These places of interest provide us with a glimpse of how close war came to our shores. At this particular location, known as the Illowra Battery Hill 60 there were 2 large gun emplacements. Both were connected with underground tunneling and a small gauge tramway. Nowadays there is not much left of the gun battery, the place has been gutted and regrettably over-run by graffiti artists and rubbish litters the area.

To find this cache you will need to enter the underground tunnels at the provided waypoint. Bring a torch and a strong nerve with you! Due to there being limited spots in this facility to hide a cache, I have reluctantly hidden a Nano size cache.
