八幡（やはた）駅は、旧駅舎の老朽化に伴い解体・新駅舎建設作業が行われ、2008年3月に現駅舎がオープンしました。なお、旧駅舎には北九州市立自然史博物館が入居しており、「博物館のある駅」として有名でしたが、『北九州市立いのちのたび博物館』開館によってその使命を終えています。
駅の南には、2022年3月に再認定された「日本新三大夜景都市」の市内を一望できる、『皿倉山』などのアウトドアスポットもあります。

Yahata Station was demolished and a new station building was constructed due to the aging of the old station building, and the current station building opened in March 2008. The former station building housed the Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History and was famous as a "station with a museum," but that mission has come to an end with the opening of the Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History and Human History.
To the south of the station, there are outdoor spots such as Mt. Sarakura, which commands a panoramic view of the city, which was re-certified as one of Japan's three new nightscape cities in March 2022.
