Geocache Description:

In the early 1900's two steamboats operated daily from Tower along Lake Vermilion making stops at Frazer Bay, Goodwills, Joyce's, Fernlunds, and Vermillion Dam, carrying passengers a distance of 30 miles.  Many early settlers ventured westward settling in the townships of Beatty, Owens and Field.  Some settled in the town of Ashawa, Which means "across the river".  Since this name was similar to that of a community in southern Minnesota it was changed in 1910 to Cook, in honor of a partner in an early lumber firm, the Cook and O'Brien Lumber Co.
