Geocache Description:

Blue top peanut butter jar.

Cache is set at the site of the Kingston Mine.

Mine was Calumet and Hecla’s last attempt to keep afloat.  After the Korean War, the end of the copper mining in the Keweenaw was coming.  C&H tried to find the “mother lode” to keep afloat, and in 1964 they thought they found it here, sinking their last shaft.  In 1969 it closed, and C&H mining ceased to exist.

Building to the SE is the hoist and compressor building.  The narrow rectangular openings in the wall were where the hoist cables came out.  To the NW is the shaft house, and going off of it to the NE is the dry house (locker room).
