The Greater Federation of Woman's Clubs was instrumental in the creation of public libraries. The Woman's Club of Windsor advocated for a local library in Windsor. This library was built by the students at P.D. Pruden Votechnical school and was completed in 1995. The library is flanked by two parks - Isle of Wight County's Robinson Park and Playground and the Town of Windsor's Wesley Garris Memorial Park and Gazebo. Many 4th of July celebrations and Christmas Tree Lightings have taken place in this park.
There is a frog in this park. This is his tale:
My name is CAJARI LAROCA. I was named after the most influential Scout leaders of Boy Scout Troop 41, Windsor, Va.: “CA”rl Eason,”JA”mes P. O’Briant III, “RI”chard Lee Vaughan, “LA”rry R.Willis, “RO”bert Locke and “CA”rter Goerger.
I was born 18 ½ years ago. I started off in Cub Scout Pack 41 and earned the Arrow of Light Award. While in Scouts, I came into Troop 41, progressing up through the ranks and I earned the Eagle Scout Award in 2019. I completed 70 merit badges which earned me two silver palms and one gold palm which I wear proudly on my Eagle Scout medal.
I wear the white with red arrow sash of a Brotherhood member of the Order of The Arrow, which is Scouting’s National Honor Society dedicated to the service of others. I am in the AGOOZI MAKAKII Lodge which means “Tree Frog” in Native American language. I am a member of the local “Chanco Chapter” which is named after the young Native American boy who saved the Jamestown Colony during the great Indian massacre of 1622.
I earned the “Recruiter” strip for getting others to join Scouts. I also qualified for the Interpreters Strip “Croaking” since I can carry on an effortless conversation by croaking. I am proud to be an American and wear the flag of the United States of America while being from the Southern Region Wetlands. I love the water and wetlands which is why the troop asked me to be the “Troop Water Front Director”.
On my leather belt is written the Scout motto, “BE PREPARED” and slogan “DO A GOOD TURN DAILY”. My belt buckle reads “LIFE MEMBER, NATIONAL EAGLE SCOUT ASSOCIATION”. On my rear shorts pockets are written the SCOUT OATH and THE SCOUT LAW. On my belt, is hanging my grandfather’s vintage Scout compass and my father’s trusty Scout pocket knife.
I have been very busy this year, I earned the “Physical Fitness” Patch for doing the most one-armed pull-ups. I had fun at “Camp Frog Level” which is famous for the big canoe races. The most fun I had this summer was at the “Great Dismal Swamp Jamboree”, scouts from all over the country came and enjoyed seeing bears, climbing trees, and having fun in the big wetlands.
Since I turned 18 years old, I attended Wood Badge Training, which is like Scouting College. I finished my ticket and now I am able to wear my two Wood Badge Log Beads. I also earned my Scouter’s Training Award medal and my God and Country Award medal, continuing to demonstrate my duty to God, others and self.
The neckerchief on my back shows: a local green tree frog, genus=Hyla, an image of the old Windsor Train Station, and a Bald Eagle in flight. Written on the neckerchief are various names the Town was called in the past: Frog Level -1800’s, Corrowaugh-1852, Windsor Station-1854. My name is written on the bottom point.
On the sides of my uniform shorts, are two quotes by Sir Robert Baden-Powell, the Founder of Scouting. “The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness in to the lives of others.” and “The spirit is there in every scout, it has to be discovered and brought to light.”
On my rear is a list of every Troop 41 Eagle Scout , “Once an Eagle Scout, Always an Eagle Scout”. Listed are the names of each Troop 41 Scoutmaster since 1966 and a list of Troop 41 VIP’s who were or still are long term influential leaders other than the Troop’s Eagle Scouts. “The Parents “are mentioned, to acknowledge their collaboration with the Troop to help facilitate the development of future leaders and model citizens in conjunction with the Windsor Ruritan Club who provides unfaltering support and serves as the Troop’s Chartered Organization. I am honored but humbled to be the Town of Windsor’s newest ambassador. Lastly, written somewhere on me is my deepest message to encourage everyone,
“It is only right to love one another”.
This is a lock and lock container that is easy to find and filled with stickers, erasers and pencils as a reward for finders.
