San Pantaleo, le cui origini risalgono alla fine del 1700 come villaggio di pastori che transitavano da questi luoghi durante la transumanza, deve il suo nome alla costruzione di una piccola chiesa dedicata a San Pantaleo, di origini orientali, il cui culto venne introdotto in Sardegna in epoca bizantina (intorno al 500-600). Il luogo è però stato abitato fin dall'antichità, poichè sono stati ritrovati resti di una tomba risalenti al Neolitico (5000 a.C. circa).
Con la nascita delle mete turistiche della Costa Smeralda dopo gli anni '50, S.Pantaleo si è in breve trasformato in un luogo rinomato e ricco di locali e piccoli negozi pittoreschi.
Il paese sorge alla base del granitico Monte Cugnana, che con i 660m della sua vetta è il più alto della zona.
Proprio in questa piazza negli anni '80 è stato girato il noto film di 007 "La spia che mi amava"!

San Pantaleo, whose origins date back to the late 1700s as a village of shepherds who passed through these places during the transhumance, owes its name to the construction of a small church dedicated to San Pantaleo, of oriental origins, whose cult was introduced in Sardinia in the Byzantine era (around 500-600 AC). However, the place has been inhabited since ancient times, as the remains of a tomb dating back to the Neolithic (about 5000 BC) have been found.
With the birth of the tourist destinations of Costa Smeralda after the 1950s, S.Pantaleo was quickly transformed into a renowned place full of restaurants and small picturesque shops.
The little town rises at the base of the granite Mount Cugnana which, with its 660 m peak, is the highest in the area.
It was in this square in the 1980s that the well-known 007 movie "The Spy Who Loved Me" was filmed!
