Steeped in history, this old ground was the home of Western Province and then The Stormers for over 100 years!
Newlands Stadium is South Africa’s oldest rugby ground and the second-oldest rugby stadium in the world. The Western Province Rugby and Football Union purchased the grounds in 1888.
Still nobody knows why The Stormers have been forced to move to The Cape Town Stadium nor what will become of this famous patch.
I remember watching Francois Pienaar and his Boks defeat Australia in the opening game of RWC 1995 which we famously went on to win!
Listen carefully: you can almost hear........PPPPRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOVVIIINNCCEE
