TIME(Taiwan Image _Modern Essences)這個系列第一階段是27位台灣近代畫家。
郭柏川（1901－1974），是出生於臺南的畫家。
1910年，郭柏川進入台南第二公學校就讀（今立人國小），1916年考上國語學校公學師範部乙科(今國立台北教育大學)。1928年，前往日本的東京美術學校進修。1933年，以半工半讀情形下，於梅原龍三郎處習畫。1937年隨梅原前往中國寫生。1938年，於北平師範大學與北平藝專擔任教職。1948年，因國共內戰返台，並在1950年於台南的省立工學院建築系(今成功大學建築系)任教，創立領導台南美術協會。1974年去世。郭柏川故居位於台南市， 古蹟修繕闢建為「郭柏川紀念館」。（資料來自維基百科）

Guo Baichuan (1901-1974) was a painter born in Tainan.In 1910, Guo Baichuan entered Tainan No. 2 Public School (now Liren Elementary School), and in 1916, he was admitted to the Second Division of the Normal School of the Chinese Language School. In 1928, he went to Japan to study at the Tokyo Art School. In 1933, he studied painting at Ryusaburo Umehara under the condition of part-time study. In 1937, he went to China to sketch with Umehara. In 1938, he took up teaching positions at Peiping Normal University and Peiping Art College . In 1948, his family returned to Taiwan due to the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. In 1950, he taught at the Department of Architecture of the Provincial Institute of Technology in Tainan (now the Department of Architecture of Chenggong University), and founded and led the Tainan Fine Arts Association. He died in 1974.The former residence of Guo Baichuan is registered as a historic site in Tainan City.The house was repaired and built as the "Guo Baichuan Memorial Hall".
