THE ROSE GARDEN NO MORE
Many years ago, before Oxford came along, this was a vibrant piece of garden with the most beautiful roses around the perimeters. Children used to play here and have a lot of fun. In later years they built a small pavilion here where people could listen to a variety of music from various ensambles that performed there for free. One Mother's Day Sunday we even had the KZN Youth Orchestra performing some light music there. People used to stand in queues just to get a seat at the restaurant tables, such was the popularity. Some days there were picnics, birthdays, art days.... Oh, the fun old days
Today it is all gone. Some action bar establishment thought it would be a better attraction to have an enclosed pitch on the spot for various games, like soccer, handball, volley ball, hockey etc. In all my visits I have never ever seen it in use...................
Now the roses are gone. The Garden is gone. The Roses Restaurant is gone. The people are gone. The memories are fading...... At least the "leaking place" around the corner is still there. Take a moment also to have a look at the old fashioned post box. It so VERY old... and YES I did consider it for a GZ
Don't read the hint until you want to PAF..................
