When the Yamato Takeru no Mikoto made his expedition to the east, he passed through the country and rested on a small hill, where he gave the villagers the spirit of Amaterasu and left the country. There is a sacred tree within the precincts of the shrine that is 17 or 800 years old. It is designated as a natural monument of the town.
