Battersea Power Station finally opens to the general public today, Friday, 14th October 2022. All are welcome to the geocaching meet by the orange slouching lady just outside the main entrance. For half an hour, 5.30pm - 6pm, we will power talk Geocaching. Feel free to exchange Trackables too.
Battersea Power Station was one of the first generation of electricity generating power stations in London. It was in-fact two super coal burning power stations standing side by side in one building, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott - the red telephone box fame. Electricity was generated from 1933 until 1983. After the last watt this iconic building had the plug pulled from one planning application to another. Finally, today it's got the respect that it has been arcing for.
The new power station will be home for shops and restaurants. Even one of the chimneys will be opened to the public as a viewing platform - no doubt will have a virtual cache one day!
