Geocache Description:

Well, for about 31 years the road used to end about 100 feet up the hill where it dropped down into a canyon. That canyon is now filled in and the road connects up near SR-56 with a shopping area nearby within walking distance for those who live near here.

A little history: This road waas originally planned to be part of Camino Ruiz extenstion from Mira Mesa. This was later changed to Camino Del Sur when it was decided (thanks to The Friends of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve) not to connect the road through PQ Canyon (very good thing). For 31 years the road was only 2 blocks long. You had to drive all the way about 4 miles to get the other side where Camino Del Sur heads up through what is now called Torrey Highlands, a subdivistion of Rancho Penasquitos. For the past 3 years starting before COVID, they started filling in the side canyon. And as of (about) August 26, Camino Del Sur finally connected the Park Village area with Torrey Highlands area and allows for direct access to SR-56. A nice round-about was put in at crossroad of Dormouse Rd to slow traffic down before it reaches the elementary school. That seems to work well. People still speed up and down the hill, but at least near the school is slows down. There is some street parking up the hill from the round-about, near the cache. This should be an easy one. Please keep it well hidden and watch for walking muggles. A lot of people are starting to use this extension for walking. Its a lot more quite than walking along Park Village Rd where cars sometimes drive up to 60 mph (you can really tell due to the noise). We now have used it for access to the Mobile station Circle K that sells Thrify Ice Cream in the store! When I was a kid, that used to be 10 cents and later 25 cents a scoop. It's now about $1.75 a scoop, but it still tastes good and nice to go in and grab while on a hot day of walking. Or to have an Icee, or coffee, or... This connects up with the SR-56 bike route as well. Happy caching!
