Mountain Lake Hut is a picturesque mountain hut located the divide between Furry and Britannia Creeks, just south of Squamish. It was built and is currently maintained by the British Columbia Mountaineering Club (BCMC). There is an outhouse, but make sure to bring your own TP if you plan on using it! There is lots of good hiking and scrambling around the hut including Mt. Sheer, Ben Lomond, Red Mountain and various other “Scottish themed” peaks. Sky Pilot and Ledge Mountain are a bit farther away but can also be reached within a day from the hut. Various lakes in the area provide much needed refreshment during warm summer days.
To reach the hut is a long and ardours journey, and as such it is recommended to do this as an overnight (or even multiple night) trip. Start by parking at the beginning of Britannia Creek FSR, just after the big hill out of Furry Creek (going northbound). From there you can either bike (recommended) or hike up to the start of the trail. 1 km from the start you will have to turn off Britannia Creek FSR and onto Furry Creek FSR. Follow Furry Creek FSR for another 10 km, ignoring all spurs until you reach the trailhead. The road is in decent condition but you will probably have to walk some steep sections (both on the way up and on the way down). From the Trailhead you are another 7 km of hiking away from the hut. You may be tired by the time you reach the hut, but I can assure you it will be worth it!
