Kyu-Furukawa Garden is located in Kita Ward and is designated as the Place of Scenic Beauty of the nation.
Originally, this land belonged to Mutsu Munemitsu, a genkun(elder statesmen who did great contribution in the Meiji restoration) of the Meiji period as his residence. When his second son was adopted into the family of the Furukawa zaibatsu (financial combine), it passed into possession of the family.
This place is featured by its arrangement to have built a western-style residence on the slightly elevated land, a western-style garden on the slope and a Japanese garden on its lower location, fully taking advantage of the topographic condition with ingenuity.
The designer of the present Western-style residence and Western-style garden was Josiah Condor, a British architect who designed the Rokumeikan, Nicolai-do and others. The garden architect of the Japanese garden was Ogawa Jihei, a gardener in Kyoto.
In the Western-style garden, 200 roses of about 100 varieties bloom beautifully twice a year, in spring and fall. The seasonal flowers and autumn foliage are also wonderful and attract many visitors.

旧古河庭園は北区にある、国の名勝に指定された庭園です。
この地はもともと明治の元勲、陸奥宗光が邸宅として所有していたもので、次男が古河財閥の養子となったため古河財閥の所有となりました。
武蔵野台地の斜面と低地という地形を活かし、台地上に洋館、斜面に洋風庭園、低地部に日本庭園を配置しています。
現在の洋館と洋風庭園の設計者は、鹿鳴館やニコライ堂などを設計した英国人建築家のジョサイア・コンドルです。日本庭園の作庭者は、京都の庭師、小川治兵衛です。
洋風庭園では、春秋の２回、約100種200株ものバラが美しく咲きます。また季節の花や紅葉を楽しみに多くの人が訪れます。
入園される場合は、開園時間、入園料、洋館見学について事前にご確認ください。
