Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed at the Alpha Club to recognize years of hosting and judging Flower Arrangements.

JPSS satellite imagery provides continual global observations of Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and land that are used to predict severe weather like hurricanes, tornadoes, and blizzards days in advance. Imagery from our satellites is also used to monitor environmental hazards such as droughts, forest fires, poor air quality, and harmful coastal waters.

JPSS-2 carries four instruments: The Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) provides information about the physical properties of our atmosphere, such as temperature and moisture, which heavily influence weather patterns. Because it observes in the microwave portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, it can see through clouds and into storms.

The Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instrument provides more accurate, detailed atmospheric temperature and moisture observations for weather and climate applications. Because CrIS provides limited observations in cloudy conditions, it works in tandem with the ATMS instrument.

The Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) tracks the health of Earth’s ozone layer and measures the concentration of ozone and other aerosols in the Earth's atmosphere. This helps with climate and weather science.

The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument collects visible and infrared images and global observations of the land, atmosphere, cryosphere, and oceans.
