Geocache Description:

You are overlooking the old Llangollen Hide & Skin Co.'s llyn y barcty (tannery pond). The tannery dates back to the 1800 around the time Thomas Telford established the Welsh A5. During the tanning process, workers washed the hides in the llyn before hanging them up to dry. The Cyflymen stream feeding the llyn begins in the hills to the south east of the town. The stream drops down through Plas Newydd's gardens and under the A5, passing the llyn before reaching the River Dee. The tannery closed its doors for the last time in 1990. Locals were glad to be free of the smells generated by the tanning process. Eventually demolition work began to make way for development. The llyn was landscaped in 1998 as part of the housing development.
