TIME(Taiwan Image _Modern Essences)這個系列第一階段是27位臺灣近代畫家。
郭雪湖（1908－2012），本名郭金火，生於大稻埕（今臺北市大同區老師里）。
1917年進入台北日新公學校就讀，跟隨陳英聲學習國畫及水彩。
1923年公學校畢業後，至台北州立工業學校就讀土木科。
後來郭氏發現與志趣不合，就讀一年後中輟退學。
1925年，至蔡雪溪之「雪溪畫館」門下學畫習藝。「雪湖」之名即蔡雪溪所命。
他教授郭雪湖描繪觀音、帝君等神像及裱褙的技藝。
1927年以〈松壑飛泉〉入選第一屆臺灣美術展覽會東洋畫部；與林玉山、陳進三人被稱為「臺展三少年」。
1929年經詩人王少濤介紹，與鄉原古統相識並接受其指導。
1930年鄉原古統和木下靜涯及其他四名在台日本畫家，包含林玉山、郭雪湖、陳進、潘春源和林東令等五人組成「栴檀社」。
第一屆「栴檀社」展，郭雪湖展出〈碧潭〉、〈秋雨〉兩件作品。
同年第四屆臺展以〈南街殷賑〉獲台展賞。
1935年與呂鐵州、陳敬輝、楊三郎、曹秋圃、林錦鴻六人組織「六硯會」。
1940年第六屆臺陽美術協會增設東洋畫部，邀請郭雪湖、陳進、林玉山、陳敬輝、呂鐵州、村上無羅加入為會員。
1941年任第七屆台陽美展東洋畫部審查委員。
1946年與楊三郎合力籌組「臺灣省全省美術展覽會」（簡稱省展）。
第一屆臺灣省美術展覽會，郭雪湖出任國畫部審查委員。
1952年由教育部派遣至菲律賓馬尼拉參加國際博覽會。
1959年創辦全臺第一所經由教育局正式立案通過的「雪湖美術教室」，培育兒童繪畫創作。
1964年郭雪湖離臺赴日，之後曾赴泰國、菲律賓、印度、中國大陸、美國完成多項系列作品之海外展覽。
1980年，郭雪湖與妻子定居美國加利福尼亞州舊金山。
1989年台北市立美術館舉行「郭雪湖－浸淫丹青70年作品展」，展出1920年至1988年之作品200餘幅。
2007年，郭雪湖獲得第二十七屆行政院文化獎。
2008年於國立歷史博物館，舉行「時代的優雅－郭雪湖百歲回顧展」。於台中國立台灣美術館舉辦「郭雪湖百歲展覽」。
