Also very close by you will notice the Ouida Memorial - a little history on it below -
Built in the early 20th century in freestone with bronze figures, this is a monument to the novelist Ouida Louise De La Ramee. A cast bronze panel on the monument states 'Born at Bury St Edmunds January 1st 1839, died at Vareggio, Italy, January 25th 1908. Her friends have erected this fountain in the place of her birth. Here may God's creatures whom she loved assuage her tender souls as they drink. Curzon of Kedleston'. Ouida died in poverty after mismanaging her money!
