Geocache Description:

Babson Outing Club (BOC) Cache No. 2 - The Globe

Going to the posted coordinates will not bring you to the cache but rather the first leg of your adventure: Babson's Kerry Murphy Healey Park - the current home of the Babson Globe. The cache is located at N 42°17'5A.BC W 71°15'4D.E

In 1947, our notoriously quirky founder and 1940 Prohibitionist presidential candidate Roger Babson decided he wanted to build the world's largest spinning globe as he was interested in geopolitics (not sure how the two are related - but whatever) and thus the idea for the Babson globe was born. It remained the world's largest spinning globe until the late 1970s when it was surpassed by the Globe of Peace in Italy - which was, in fact, inspired by the Babson Globe. To this day it remains the world's third largest spinning globe after the aforementioned Globe of Peace and the current record holder: Garmin's Eartha located in Maine. The Babson Globe was actually ordered to be demolished in 1988 but was saved by a student movement aptly called "Save the Globe".

To find the cache - head to the globe and look down at your feet. You will see inscriptions on the bricks surrounding the globe containing messages from anyone who has donated $250 to the college. The final coordinates are hidden in these inscriptions.

A: Near the statue of Roger Babson - Deborah DeSantis was in the class of 198A

B: Below the #10 brick - the individual who shares a name with a famous folk artist was in the class of 198B

C: The 9th name brick below the #9 brick contains only one word with C letters

D: Below the #8 brick - there is a brick shared by two Babson grads - one from the class of 1949 and one from the class of 202D

E: On a place you can sit - there is a memorial plaque for the cofounder of FME, 198E-2011
