Geocache Description:

Get ready for a fright.  This cache series is not for the faint of heart.  This spooky season explores some of the Colorado Springs area's most haunted locations with the Haunted Cache series.

The Cliff House in Manitou Springs was built before Colorado was a state.  It was called The Inn and was a stagecoach stop and a boarding house for hunters.  Edward Nichols renamed it in the 1870s to the Cliff House and remodeled it into the luxurious hotel that it is today.  It is famous for dining, and upscale accommodations, as well as hosting events such as weddings.

The Cliff House is also famous for its terrifying and tragic haunting.  On July 11, 1913, Albert Whitehead was the nightwatchman at the Cliff House.  While he was in his office, two men broke in, intent on robbing the safe.  When Albert refused to open it, they shot him.  Covered in blood, Albert ran onto the lawn in front of horrified guests and collapsed.  Albert Whitehead is caught in a residual haunting where his spirit relives his death over and over in a death loop.  Every year on the anniversary of his death, Albert's ghost reenacts his bloody run.  It is so common that often the police no longer respond to reports of a bloody man running in front of the Cliff House on July 11th.
