Le Grand Central Belge était un consortium de sociétés privées de chemin de fer belge ayant existé entre 1864 et la fin du xixe siècle.
À son apogée, le Grand Central Belge exploitait un réseau de plus de 600 km de voies de chemin de fer essentiellement en Belgique, avec quelques extensions aux Pays-Bas, en Allemagne et en France. L'épine dorsale de ce réseau était constitué par la ligne internationale Rotterdam – Anvers – Aarschot – Louvain – Charleroi – Mariembourg – Vireux-Molhain et il exploitait également une autre ligne internationale d'importance : le Rhin d'acier, qui reliait Anvers au bassin de la Ruhr. L'atelier central de la compagnie étant établi à Louvain, tout proche de la cache.

The Grand Central Belge was a Belgian consortium of private railway companies that was created through various mergers in the years 1864-1867 and continued to exist until the end of the 19th century. At its peak, the Grand Central Belge operated a network of more than 600 km of railway lines in Belgium plus a number of lines in the Netherlands, Germany and France. The backbone was the north-south axis Rotterdam – Antwerp – Aarschot – Leuven – Charleroi – Mariembourg – Vireux (France). The Central Workshop was located in Leuven, right next to the cache.

De Grand Central Belge was een Belgisch consortium van privé-spoorwegmaatschappijen dat ontstond door diverse fusies in de jaren 1864-1867 en bleef bestaan tot het einde van de 19de eeuw. Op haar hoogtepunt exploiteerde de Grand Central Belge een netwerk van meer dan 600 km spoorlijnen in België plus een aantal lijnen in Nederland, Duitsland en Frankrijk. De ruggengraat was de noord-zuid-as Rotterdam – Antwerpen – Aarschot – Leuven – Charleroi – Mariembourg – Vireux (Frankrijk). De Centrale Werkplaats bevond zich te Leuven.
