Památník obětem železné opony stojí asi kilometr od bývalé celnice na cestě, která za totality ležela za ostnatými dráty a sloužila výhradně pohraničníkům. Právě u Mikulova se odehrál bezpočet pokusů o útěk z totalitního Československa.
Pamětní místo tvoří 53 kovových sloupů, které jsou připomínkou lidí, kteří za totality, v letech 1948-1989, zahynuli při pokusu překročit hranice. Na sloupech vysokých 8 metrů je zapsané jméno člověka, který zde při překonávání železné opony zemřel. Na úseku od slovenských hranic až po Slavonice zahynuli Češi, Poláci, Rakušané i lidé z východního Německa. Okolo památníku jsou také cedule, na kterých jsou napsána jména obětí a příběhy které se k nim vážou.

Pro odlovení není potřeba vstupovat do kolejiště. Dbejte prosím na svou bezpečnost. Buďte při odlovu opatrní a nenápadní, protože se to tady obzvláště v létě hemží turisty.

The memorial to the victims of the Iron Curtain stands about a kilometer from the former customs office on the road, which under the totalitarian regime was behind barbed wire and used exclusively by border guards. Countless attempts to escape from totalitarian Czechoslovakia took place in Mikulov.
The memorial site consists of 53 metal pillars, which are a reminder of the people who died during the totalitarian regimes, in the years 1948-1989, while trying to cross the border. The 8-meter-high pillars with the name of a person who died here while crossing the Iron Curtain. Czechs, Poles, Austrians and people from East Germany died in the section from the Slovak border to Slavonice. Around the memorial there are also signs on which the names of the victims and the stories associated with them are written.
