According to Webster's, INSOMNIA is a noun, meaning "a prolonged and usually abnormal ability to get enough sleep especially due to trouble falling asleep or staying asleep." Tips to treat it include limiting large meals before bed, avoiding naps, avoiding caffeine and nicotine, and staying active. And what better way to stay active than NIGHT CACHING!
May be useful to read through this write-up before attempting. This cache was originally hidden in conjunction with Balloop's Spooktober All About Night Caching Event (GCA0HF9) in October 2022. This is a night cache, and as such, is designed to be found in the dark. The posted coordinates will NOT bring you to the cache, but to a great spot to park and the beginning of your adventure. A couple of notes:
- You will be on state gamelands. Hunting begins just before dawn and ends just after dusk. So in the event you are doing this in hunting season right at dark, PLEASE know the rules and wear orange. Or best yet, do it at midnight!
- BRING A FLASHLIGHT and a back-up. The light on your phone will not be sufficient.
- Consider bringing a caching buddy - best to have an extra set of eyes, and NOT to be alone in the woods in the dark.
- You'll be hiking - maybe up to 1.5 miles - so please wear appropriate footwear and bring water. I logged 1.76 miles hiding this.
Now, on to the cache...
This will be the traditional night cache, where you follow ORANGE reflective tacks to the container. I've placed the tacks using a ladder (hint!) so as to hopefully avoid people removing them (as I have seen with past night caches). From the parking area, use your GPS to navigate to the posted coordinates, where you should begin looking for your first tack. Once you spot it, continue on the trail and look for more tacks. ONE tack means continue straight, TWO tacks mean you need to turn (look for more tacks to the left or right), THREE tacks mean you should stop looking for tacks and start looking for a container.
In an attempt to maintain the integrity of this as a NIGHT cache, you will need to figure out the combination to the lock once you arrive at GZ. Proper tools and darkness should be your friends! While a UV-light would help, it is not mandatory to log this cache!
