The Church:
St. Michael's Church in Doddiscombsleigh was constructed in the 15th Century and later heavily restored and rebuilt in the 1870s by Edward Ashworth of Exeter. However, there's evidence in the form of masonry in the outer north wall indicating a much earlier building once stood on the site, possibly dating back to before the year 1000. The list of rectors dates back to 1259 and a number of the stained-glass windows are oldest in situ such windows in Devon barring those in Exeter Cathedral. These contribute to the church being a Grade I listing building.
