This cache is placed near a famous park and historical site in town. Mrs. Mary Jane Ward was coined the "Mother of Topeka" after she hosted a large picnic on the banks of the Kansas River and invited all of the townspeople of the new, city Topeka. The cabins on the property were The Ward's first home when they purchased the land. While they lived there, they would often set a candle in the window to signal to travelers their home was a friendly and safe place to stop along the Oregon Trail. Eventually, in 1874, what is known as "The Mansion" was completed which became the new home on the property. Old Prairie Town has a multitude of activies including guided tours, an operating general store and drug store, and several events throughout the year.
The cache is accessible 24/7, but be sure to stop by during business hours for a guided or self-guided tour of the land and gardens.
