A welcome spot to look at the view. This walk lets you see most of the mountain ranges of Southern Snowdonia. The highlight from this viewpoint being Aran Fawddy, whch at 900m is taller than the more famous Cadair Idris. On it's side is a small lake Creiglyn Dyfi, whic is the source of the River Dyfi, leading down to the Irish Sea via Machynlleth. The estuary and surroundings are a UNESCO Biosphere reserve.
The river you can see below you is the Mawddach.
Aran Fawddy is pronounced 'ARR-an VOWTH-wee' ('th' as in that), the name Fawddy being a mutation of Mawddy, the name of the ruling family of the area. Dinas Mawddy being the nearest settlement, to find out more about this area try the Bandit Country geocache series, or the Bandit Country adventure lab.
