Small clip-lock box with log, pencil and room for a couple of small swaps.
Pinehill Field is a designated village green frequented by dog walkers, families and community sports teams, but there are also numerous nooks and pathways among the trees and hedgerows around the sides, which offer perfect cover for games of hide-and-seek, Goldilocks role-play or geocaching.
It's also a wonderful spot for picking blackberries, plums and sloes, or admiring the hawthorns in blossom. If you're lucky, you might occasionally spot a furtive muntjac. Goodness knows how it got there, as the field is surrounded by residential streets (which, incidentally, offer plenty of on-street parking outside the school run hours - don't park in the hospital car park).
It's one of Hitchin's highest spots and clearest sightlines - from the top of the field, looking out across the farmland, you'll spot Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
To reach the cache, walk behind the tree line from Pinhell Path at the higher end of the field, or go under the canopy from the main part of the field. The field can be accessed either from Pinehill Path or the path that skirts around William Ransom school. There are a few red herrings around the hiding place - don't be seduced by the MTT nearby. Look for something greener.
