Pickleball has been called “the fastest growing sport you’ve probably never heard of." Pickleball is a combination of ping-pong, tennis, and badminton and can be played indoor or outdoor. It was invented in 1965 in Bainbridge Island, WA by 3 dads whose kids were bored with normal summer activities. Pickleball has spread across the US and Canada and is slowly spreading internationally as well.
This cache is located near the largest pickleball complex in the state of Kansas with 18 courts. Hughes Park is host to numerous tournaments throughout the year, and people can be seen playing pickleball often. Hughes park was also the first accessible park in Shawnee County. There are swings, playground equipment, picnic tables, and lots of landscaped green space.
