Geocache Description:

STOP!!! READ THIS VERY EXCITING CACHE.
This cache contains a “Brand New” Garmin etrex Vista, the very best of the Garmin etrex line complete with manual, data transfer cable, cigarette lighter power cable, etc. Also, you will find along with this cache $500.00 “CASH” in Canadian loonies, CD’s and many more exciting items. In fact so many more items it took two “WWF” wrestlers to pack in all the items for this cache. All the information below is accurate, all you have to do is find the answers to the puzzle and the above items are yours.
At Team KFWB GPS we’re trying to make the search for caches more exciting – you have to think and plan more, and you’ll find you get much more as a result of your efforts.
OK enough said let’s get on with caching!
Start this cache off by ignoring the above UTM and Lat/Long position they’ll only tell you that this cache is located on Vancouver Island.
Instead, start off at the Grenwich meridian, where it meets the equator. From this location proceed 12387.888335 km’s at a bearing of 323 degrees 29 minutes 04.1437 seconds true North.
This bearing will get you to a point that will be the first point you reach on Vancouver Island proper. From here proceed a short distance to a high point on the part of Vancouver Island you’ve first reached. There you will find a benchmark, determine its UTM. From this UTM that you have just determined get out your compass and binoculars, and sight at 165 degrees 33 minutes 49.3147 seconds true North to a rust colored outdoor building. There are no windows in it and a small patio will be on the right side of the building as you are looking at it (West side).
Figure out the UTM of the extreme West corner of this small patio. From this UTM that you have just determined proceed on a bearing of 265 degrees 04 minutes 04.4391 seconds true North until you come to a “Hydrographic Survey Benchmark” (it’s not too far away) figure out the UTM of this benchmark.
Now you will have to measure the following:
· Go to the Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria B.C. sit on the wall on the South side of the castle with your back next to a large Gary Oak tree. From here, measure the distance in meters from where you are sitting to the top of the highest chimney on the Castle.
· Next go down to McNeill bay in Victoria B.C. Go to the headland on the far East side of the bay. There you will find two sets of bolts seet into the rock. From the most easterly set of bolts measure the distance in meters to an Obilisk at a bearing of 278 degrees 05 minutes 45.8165 seconds true North.
· Now proceed to a benchmark at the top of a rocky area on the south side of the most Southerly boat launch at Cattle Point in Victoria B.C. From this benchmark look out to sea at a bearing of 137 degrees true North there you will see a navigation beacon on a rock. It is all white in color with a railing around it. Determine the distance from the benchmark to the navigation beacon, (in meters).
· Next from the Mt. Matheson benchmark (a pin without a disk) go on a bearing of 44 degrees 36 minutes 59.3781 seconds true North to a yellow paint dot on the North side of Matheson Lake, at the edge of the lake (on a rock). Once here determine the distance in meters between the 2 points.
·Finally determine the distance in meters between the Hydrographic Survey Benchmark located near the tip of Cormorant Point in Victoria B.C. and the tip of the nose of the green sea monster in Gyro park Victoria B.C.
We’ve tried to keep our accuracies as tight as possible, working off surveyed benchmarks, as well the use of both a Trimble Pro XR and Pro XRS survey grade GPS using differential. We also used a Leica Laser. All the above distances have been determined by GPS positions between points except for the Craigdarroch Castle distance which involved some mathematics for obvious reasons. When calculating distances between points using GPS, your rise and fall in elevation does not affect the overall distance as GPS presumes everything is at the same elevation.
To get to the cache go on a compass bearing of 241 degrees 50 minutes 48.9887 seconds true North from the "FIRST" "Hydrographic Benchmark” (near the rust colored outdoor building)that you determined the UTM of. Using this UTM and bearing, your distance will be 17450.008 meters plus all the distances added to this from all the above measurements "starting at the very first Benchmark" when you arrived on Vancouver Island,to the tip of the green sea monsters nose in Gyro park.
Note! All distances are in meters unless otherwise specified. All compass bearings are in True North using an offset of 19 degrees East declination unless otherwise specified. All positions have been determined in WGS-84 using the GRS-80 ellipsoid. Be careful with your measurements as errors can compound and put you out some distance. All areas are accessible to the public. Be safe, respect the area’s you visit and please reseal all containers and bags at the cache site for others to enjoy.
Happy caching from Team KFWB GPS!
