Geocache Description:

The black-bellied whistling duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis) is a whistling duck that breeds from the southernmost United States, Mexico, and Central America. In the US, it can be found year-round in peninsular Florida. It is occasionally just known as the "whistling duck" or "Mexican squealer" in the southern USA.

The black-bellied whistling duck is a mid-sized waterfowl species. Length ranges from 19 to 22 inches, body mass from 1.4 to 2.2 lbs and wingspan ranges from 30 to 37 inches. It has a long red bill, long head and longish legs, pale gray head and mostly gray-brown plumage. The belly and tail are black, and the body plumage, back of the neck and cap are a rich chestnut brown. The face and upper neck are gray, and they sport a thin but distinct white eye-ring.

This cache is placed in the middle of a black-bellied whistling duck breeding ground. It's actually just a retention pond but the ducks don't know that. In summer you will find a plethora of ducks here but in winter there are thousands of them. It truly is a spectacular site. Lots of parking nearby but this is not a P&G. Located along a friendly neighborhood dog walk sidewalk so expect muggles at peak dog walking times.

If you are vertically challenged bring something to stand on or an extension tool and don't whine. It's safer from muggles up there.

Good luck and happy hunting!
