Geocache Description:

I love to quilt! And sometimes Mr QuiltinAnnie helps with the design; figuring out the angles and measurements! This letterbox series will highlight a traditional quilt block or pattern beginning with the letter of the stamp found inside the cache. You will need to supply your own stamp pad.

X and O's block

Though the history regarding the symbolism of X’s and O’s at the end of a letter or note is long and contested, we have all probably used this familiar, affectionate closing in a letter or card to a loved one or been the recipient of such a signature.

The traditional name of this quilt is Paths to Piece, but in recent years it's become know as X's and O's and and sometimes even Hugs and Kisses. Depending on how the quilt blocks are sewn together, one or both of those letters will emerge in the design. So, in a quilt, you might see the X's or you might see the O's.  For an entirely different looking quilt, you could sew sashes between each indiviual block.  Then you would see the X's and O's more distinctly.
