This cache will introduce you to one of the newest parks in Erie County, located just southwest of Fairview, PA.
This park is located 1.50 miles (2.41km) southwest of Fairview, PA on Barker Road with access off of Rt. 20 south on Dobler or Daggett Roads. The only parking lot and trail head is at N 42° 00.755' W 080° 16.212' Fairview Township acquired this land in 1998 (84 acres, or 34 hectares) and is in the process of developing it. Currently it has an extensive trail system with wide trails and rolling terrain that is ideal for cross-country skiing and hiking.
Trail maps may be available in the box at the trail head, or may be picked up at the township office on McCray Road across from Fairview High School at N 42° 01.147' W 080° 14.751' during regular business hours. Just north of the southern field is a mature Beech/Hemlock forest. To quote from the Master Site Plan, "the vegetation here is enchanting. Large trees with dense canopies create an enviornment similar to Cooks Forest." A number of trees in this rather small area are 100-300 years old.
The western part of the property contains second growth timber and old or wild orchards with a number of trees covered with bittersweet vines. From the trailhead you can proceed straight ahead on the road or, preferably, take the trail to the east (which is more scenic) and proceed clockwise toward the cache. No hunting is permitted in the park, so wildlife is abundant. Bring the dogs, they'll love it here.
The cache is in a small ammo box that is hidden within 75 feet of a trail. The cache contains the usual "stuff" and a travellingalien that needs to keep moving in order to keep ahead of the authorities.
