Totally Findable Tourist Caches

Welcome to Sydney

This series of geocaches is designed primarily with visitors to Sydney in mind who may have limited time and transport options and want a quick and easy find while out enjoying some sightseeing around this beautiful city.

All cache containers will be one of three types; a flat magnetic key case (MKC), a round film canister (FC or MFC for magnetic) or a fake rock (FR).

As always with city caching, the surrounding structures can affect GPS accuracy. If in doubt, use the hint however be mindful that the hint will indicate the type of container used and will be very specific to help you find the cache easily. If you want a challenge to find this cache and don't wish to know exactly where it's hidden, do not look at the hint.

At each location you’ll be given some information about the site you are visiting. I hope you find this information enlightening.

Enjoy!

Sydney Town Hall

The Sydney Town Hall, (also known as Centennial Hall, Main Hall, Peace Hall, Great Hall), was built in the 1880s and is a late 19th-century heritage-listed town hall building. It has been a major landmark in the heart of the city for over 130 years, with its steps possibly Sydney's best-used rendezvous point.

Sydney Town Hall forms part part of the Town Hall precinct which includes the Queen Victoria Building, St Andrew's Cathedral, the Gresham Hotel (now known as Hong Kong House) and the former Bank of New South Wales.

The Sydney Town Hall is built on the former Old Sydney Burial Ground. The cemetery was Sydney's first permanent cemetery and it is estimated that at least 2,000 burials were made in the Old Sydney Burial Ground between 1792 and 1820.

Inside the Sydney Town Hall

The Town Hall was built from local Sydney sandstone and is the largest and most ornate late 19th century civic building in Australia, renowned for its high Victorian interiors and rich decoration.

The Sydney Town Hall Grand Organ is a large pipe organ built by English firm William Hill & Son in 1890. When it was installed in 1890, the Sydney Town Hall Grand Organ was the largest in the world and remained the largest concert organ built in the 19th century. It was described by Westminster Abbey's organist, Dr Bridge, as the 'finest organ ever built by an English organ builder'. It remains the world's largest organ without any electric action components and is of international significance. It contains one of only two full-length 64′ organ stops in the world (the Contra-Trombone in the pedal). The other 64′ stop is located in the organ at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

The time capsule in the wall close to GZ was placed in 1989 and will be opened in 2089, the 200th anniversary of The Centennial Hall. I wonder what's inside?
