En el casco histórico de Santillana cuatro fuentes y un lavadero y abrevadero, perviven en sus calles desde el s. XVI. De todos el lavadero y abrevadero es el más conocido y reproducido en fotografías por su emplazamiento, que tiene como marco principal la fachada de la Colegiata de Santa Juliana y, a su espalda, el arco de la casa de Quevedo, que permite el desagüe del manantial que aflora junto al lavadero. En esta misma calle, y adosado al muro del actual museo de la tortura, encontramos una de las fuentes cuya ornamentación, jarrón enmarcado en una hornacina, es de estilo barroco del s. XVII. De iguales características y decoración es la de la calle Gándara, ubicada a la entrada de la villa.
En la Plaza Mayor está otra de las fuentes. Su decoración, también barroca, enmarca su caño en varios cordones trenzados.
La última, en el campo Revolgo, aunque de igual fecha que las anteriores, ha sido decorada recientemente con una obra del escultor Jesús Otero.
English: In the historic center of Santillana four fountains and a laundry and trough, survive in its streets since the s. XVI. Of all the laundry and trough is the best known and reproduced in photographs for its location, which has as its main frame the façade of the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana and, behind it, the arch of the house of Quevedo, which allows the drainage of the spring that emerges next to the laundry.
