La Tour de l’Horloge fait partie des remparts qui protègent la ville de Castellane depuis le Moyen-Age. Porte d’entrée de la cité, elle donne sur la route principale. Au sommet, un campanile est installé.

La tour de l’Horloge appelée aussi de la porte Saint-Michel est datée traditionnellement, avec l’ensemble des remparts de Castellane, de 1359 et des années qui ont suivi. Elle a été transformée en beffroi communal au 18e siècle, avec l’adjonction d’un campanile métallique avant 1775.
La porte Saint-Michel était autrefois une tour ouverte à la gorge. Mais l’élévation intérieure a été murée à une époque indéterminée. La tour a été classée monument historique en 1920. La porte Saint-Michel s’apparente aux autres tours conservées des fortifications de Castellane : maçonnerie en assises assez grossières de petits moellons ; chaînes d’angles en pierre de taille en tuf, bossagées dans les parties supérieures ; rangs de consoles à quatre ressauts en quart-de-rond.
The Clock Tower is part of the ramparts that have protected the town of Castellane since the Middle Ages. Gateway to the city, it overlooks the main road. At the top, a campanile is installed.

The Clock Tower, also called Porte Saint-Michel, is traditionally dated, along with all the ramparts of Castellane, to 1359 and the years that followed. It was transformed into a municipal belfry in the 18th century, with the addition of a metal campanile before 1775.
The Porte Saint-Michel was once an open tower at the gorge. But the interior elevation was walled up at an undetermined time. The tower was classified as a historic monument in 1920. Porte Saint-Michel is similar to the other towers preserved from the fortifications of Castellane: masonry in fairly coarse courses of small rubble; chains of angles in freestone in tuff, bossed in the upper parts; rows of consoles with four quarter-round projections.
