Marmot's Home Field Advantage Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Foxboro Marmot: This three part cache has had a few problems lately. There's occasionally been a camper near waypoint 1, which makes searching for the coordinates a bit sketchy. Then the tree holding waypoint 2 came down. Marmot decided to retire this cache and replace it with Marmot's Home Field Advantage 2.0 which use the same final location without any intermediate steps. Archived 6/25/2022.

Geocache Description:

NEWS: As of April 17, 2022 the second waypoint in this multi cache has disappeared! Go straight to the final. GO TO N42 03.190 / W071 16.959 The Marmot invites you to check out F. Gilbert Hills State Forest in Foxboro with this FORMERLY three-part cache.

The first two waypoints are wooden tags; the final cache is now a traditional ammo box. In order, they are placed (1) near a small cave, (2) near a currently dry seasonal waterfall and (3) near a prehistoric astronomical observatory. Marmot calls this his Home Field Advantage cache since he expects anyone familiar with the state forest can walk directly to these sites before turning on their GPS. According to a local amateur archeologist, boulders near the final cache were arranged like Stonehenge by prehistoric people to mark the rising sun on the summer and winter solstice, as well as other significant dates. Unfortunately, because of trees blocking the views, it?s hard to prove. He also suggests that a relatively flat stone raised up and resting on three smaller stones was a place of human sacrifice, pointing out a channel carved in the stone surface which he says was used to collect the victim?s blood. Professional archeologists believe our local fellow simply has an overactive imagination and too much time on his hands, but check www.stonesites.net and make up your own mind. (Thanks, PerrysPirates!) The Marmot is interested but skeptical and wants to get back to discussing the cache. Round trip from parking lot to final cache and back is about 3 miles. Marmot recommends picking up a map at the trails entrance and walking on roads rather than bushwhacking. In fact, this would be a good place to geocache via mountain bike. Be aware that deer hunting is allowed in the forest most of October, November and Decvember so in fall wear bright colors, talk loudly and consider searching on Sundays, when no hunting is allowed. The Marmot provides hints, but tends to babble. He amuses himself more than his readers.
