Geocache Description:

The Holcroft House was built in 1822 by John Charlton Clarkson. It was originally named the Mansion House, but was renamed in honor of Elizabeth Holcroft, the mother of Matthew Clarkson, who was the first member of his family to come to America. The house only had two floors when it was originally built; the third floor was added sometime after 1853. The house changed hands many times until the late 1920s, after which it remained empty until it was opened as a men’s dorm in 1939. Today the building operates as the admissions and welcome center for Clarkson College.

The first record of a ghost sighting at the house dates back to the 1970s, when Holcroft was a women’s dormitory. Those who saw the ghost described her as “a woman in her late twenties or thirties, dressed in a long, dark skirt and a blousy blouse, with leg-o-mutton sleeves, tight at the forearm then expanding and gathering at the elbows.” Visitors report seeing furniture move by itself and lights turn on by themselves; others have heard footsteps, banging sounds, and a woman crying. A Ouija board was once brought into the building, and it spelled out the name "Elizabeth". Some believe Elizabeth Holcroft’s spirit traveled to her namesake house and has been haunting it ever since.

Happy Halloween, everyone! The spooky theme of this cache will be obvious once you find it. The container only has enough room for the log, so be sure to BYOP.
