Geocache Description:

St. Andrew's church is Headington's oldest building and, in part, dates back to the 12th century. It is thought to have been established by Hugh de Pluggenait, Lord of the Manor of Headington from 1142-1201. However, this is an ancient site and archaeological evidence points to the possibility of a place of worship existing here more than 1700 years ago.

The village of Headington was first mentioned in a deed of King Ethelred in1004.

Headington was a seat of royalty during the reigns of the later Anglo Saxon kings. It is thought that King Ethelred was christened here and probably had a Palace in Headington.

The last king to reside in the parish was probably Henry 1st who died in 1135.

Do have a look inside the church if you have the time- there is a simple paper guide available to show you around.
