🚰 Gemaal Mercatorstraat

Het gemaal / elektriciteitshuisje ligt op de zuidwestelijke punt van het Erasmuspark, en maakt eigenlijk geen deel uit van het park.

Het is gebouwd in 1927 en is afkomstig van de Dienst der Publieke werken (Gemeente). Het gebouwtje is, sinds het in 2017 in overleg met buurtbewoners gerestaureerd is, een van de Amsterdamse Schoolstijl.

Aan de voorzijde heeft het twee massieve deuren die nog verwijzen naar het Gemeentelijk Energie Bedrijf, voor dit gebouw Liander. Waternet is verantwoordelijk voor het gemaal.

Het gemaal pompt nog iedere dag duizenden liters afwater naar de zuiveringsinstallatie van Westpoort, aldus Waternet. Als je goed luistert hoor je het water door het gemaal suizen..

🚰 Pumping station Mercatorstreet

This pumping station and electricity building is located at the southwest point of the Erasmuspark, and is actually not part of the park.

It's built in 1027 by the Dienst der Publieke werken, which is a devision of the municipality. The building is architecturally build according to the Amsterdam School style, and restored in dialogue with the residents of the neigborhood in 2017.

At the front you can see two massive doors, which still refer to the Gemeentelijk Energie Bedrijf (Municipal Energy Company), in this case Liander, while Waternet is responsible for the pump station.

According to Waternet, the pumpstation still pumps thousands of liters of water on a daily base to the sewage treatment plant of Westpoort. If you hear close you can hear the water whizzing throuhgh the station.
