Geocache Description:

This cache was created by 3 former Parkdale teachers.

Parkdale opened on January 3,1957. It's name reflected the school's proximity to Queen"s Park and "dale" refers to the open area. In 1981 an addition was built - a new gym and 2 new classrooms. The original gym was one of the classrooms in the school... can you imagine! Parkdale had the most unique playground. It was just bushes that students ran through or built forts in and rocks for climbing and sliding down on during the winter. Students would slide on the rocks in front of the school heading towards the bleachers at Queen"s Park....just remember to duck... AND..NO ONE got hurt! In 2001 a new jungle gym was installed thanks to a fundraising effort by parents.

Harry Antoniw was the longest serving principal with 21 years and Bill Pauley being the last principal. Not only the school but the community mourned the loss of principal Brian King who died in 1993 in a tragic vehicle accident.

In 2005, Parkdale was deemed structurally unsafe and after 48 years this great school was closing. In 2006 the original wing of the school was demolished. The addition that was built in 1981 remained and is now home to Many Faces.

Parkdale was popular among students, staff and parents for its close-knit, neighborly atmosphere. As a student you may remember Mrs Neufeld's sleepovers and Grade 5 trip to Churchill or Mrs. Danko"s red bathtub that was the reading corner or sneaking off to Deadman"s Rock. Staff members may remember "the dungeon" where all our supplies and textbooks were stored.

We would love to hear your memories/connections of Parkdale in your online log.
