This church was built on what originally was a landfill site, which was closed in the 1990s. That was the time when the Anglican Diocese of Hong Kong and Macao was about to develop their missionary work in the new towns of Hong Kong, including the Tseung Kwan O New Town, which was developed in the late 1980s.
The patron saint of this church is St John the Baptist and its simplistic design is to match the spiritual qualities of the saint. The church consists of three parts, including the church, the office building and the garden. At the entrance stands the bell towers with the garden on your right. You have to climb a flight of stairs before entering the church building. As you enter, you can see the baptismal font as its patron saint encouraged people to repent and be baptised.
