L'abbazia di San Giovanni in Venere si trova nel comune di Fossacesia, su una collina prospiciente il mare Adriatico a 107 m s.l.m.
Il complesso monastico di San Giovanni in Venere è composto da una basilica e dal vicino monastero, entrambi costruiti all'inizio del XIII secolo in luogo del piccolo monastero preesistente (vedi il capitolo sulla Storia).
La posizione è molto panoramica: è su una collina che domina la costa vicina per diversi chilometri verso nord e verso sud. Dal dicembre 2014 il Ministero per i beni e le attività culturali la gestisce tramite il Polo museale dell'Abruzzo, nel dicembre 2019 divenuto Direzione regionale Musei.
Approfittate per andare sulla costa a vedere i trabocchi, a fare il bagno in un mare cristallino, a mangiare i prodotti enogastronomici abruzzesi...
