This cache is located along a hiking trail near a popular fishing hole on the Mad River near the town of Blue Lake. The nearest vehicle parking spot is along the roadway margins of Hatchery Road, near the entrance gate for the Mad River Fish Hatchery. There are certain times of the year when the route to the cache is comparatively well-traveled, by fisher-persons coming and going to and from the river (during the salmon and steelhead runs); most times of the year, however, cachers will have the trail to themselves. It is recommended that visitors bring along binoculars, because the area boasts a wide variety of wildlife which are worthy of closer scrutiny.
