Geocache Description:

The Warncoort Methodist Church was built in 1858 on land donated by Alexander Dennis.  The little stone building measured 12 metres x 6 metres.  The first service was conducted by Rev. Willliam Hill.

Another room with a fireplace was built on the south wall to serve as a schoolroom.

In March 1918, over 200 people attended its Diamond Jubilee.  Two marble plaques were unveiled honouring Richard Dennis and William Rutland for their contributions to the church and the community.  A third plaque made of local oak featured the names of those who had served in the Great World War of 1914-1918.

On 14th January 1944 the church and its contents were destroyed in a bushfire.

In the corner of the Warncoort Cemetery stands a memorial cairn made with the stone from the old church.  You can still see some of the remains of the old building.

The ruins are on private property, so please do not climb the fence.
