Geocache Description:

This is a marker placed to give a brief history about Chief Tonganoxie. The marker reads as follows:

CHIEF TONGANOXIE - LAST LINEAL CHIEF OF THE DELAWARE INDIANS AND "MAN OF PEACE," LIVED NEAR HERE PRIOR TO 1864. HIS LODGE WAS A STOPPING PLACE ON THE TRAIL INTO KANSAS. HIS FATHER WAS TAMARUND, WHOSE DELAWARES WENT TO THE AID OF KINSMEN IN JAMES FENIMORE COOPER'S FAMED CLASSIC, "LAST OF THE MOHICANS." A GRANDFATHER, TAMANAND, MADE A FAMOUS TREATY WITH WILLIAM PENN IN 1683.

Email me the last name of the individual memorialized on the bench in front of the historical marker for verification of your visit. Do Not post this name in your cache log entry, or post a picture of the front of the bench in your log entry. Thanks.
