After visiting the historic Melrose district, you USED to be able to hop on the Green Cove Springs and Melrose RR and head back to Green Cove Springs in time for supper. Now you'll have to drive there, but at least you can see where the railroad once ran. In fact, if you follow this road, you will be on the old railroad bed, one of the few sections still possible to travel.
