We were traveling the beautiful Champagne countryside when we came across an enormous statue in honor of Pope Urban II (1042-1099), the man who was responsible for the launch of the first Crusade in 1095. Made out of granite, this 108’ statue was inaugurated in 1887 and is situated on a hill that provides excellent views of the surrounding valley. From where you can park your car, the walk to the statue is about 150 meters.
In order to post your find, you must email me the number of lights that illuminate the south side of the statue. Please do not post your answer as part of your visit report, even if encrypted.
We hope you enjoy the views and the numerous wineries in this beautiful valley.
